Crimeware and how to avoid them
|
|
Today , surfing the internet could expose your computer to certain dangers . The internet is the medium for lots of malicious software to spread around and duplicates itself . The term crimeware refers to any malicious software that is being used by cyber criminals. |
These culprit use these software to hack or intrude into someone's computer , steal their private information , cause severe damage on victims machine or earning lots of money by making illegal transactions.
These are some types of crimeware today .
1.Virus : Viruses usually are used to destroy your Data or
Hardware. Where as Trojans are used to gain remote access
into your system.
Always scan any new files you receive as well, even if they are off a friend, you don't know where those files originated from. ALWAYS use a little common sense when on the Internet as well.
So it is important to install a good anti virus program .Good anti virus program most have the following criteria : easy to use , effective at identifying viruses and worms , effective at cleaning or isolating infected files , good activity reporting , easy to be installed and come with plenty of help.
|
|
New viruses are always created , so it is extremely important to make sure this program is updated at least once a week, and all drives are scanned. Remember , do not run 2 different Antivirus -they can cause conflicts in each other.. or think the other is a virus.
|
In overall , Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 is the best all-around
antivirus program. Kaspersky is good all round , fastest
updates and low conflicts . www.kaspersky.com
The others that you can try :
Bit Defender 10 (www.bitdefender.com )
Panda Titanium (www.pandasoftware.com )
AVG Anti Virus ( www.grisoft.com )
2. Trojan : A Trojan is a malicious, security breaking
program that but appear to be useful or interesting programs
(or at the very least harmless) to an unsuspecting user. A
simple example of a trojan horse would be a program named "waterfalls.scr"
claiming to be a free waterfall screensaver which, when run,
instead would allow access to the user's computer remotely.
A Trojan can grant access to your system to third parties,
allowing them to commit criminal offenses with your Internet
connection. If those offenses are investigated the trail
will lead right to you.A trojan can also be used by cyber
criminals to get personal or business data and some
passwords memorized within your computer.
To protect your PC from trojan horses , you'll need a good
trojan remover . You can try Anti Trojan Elite . It can
remove malware and contains real time firewall. Highly
recommended . More information www.remove-trojan.com . You
can also try Trojan Shield ( www.trojanshield.com ) and
Trojan Guarder ( www.your-soft.com )
3.Worms : A computer worm is a self-replicating program that
uses a network to send copies of itself to other nodes
(computer terminals on the network) and it may do so without
any user intervention. It differs from virus because it does
not need to attach itself to an existing program. Also ,
worms always harm the network (if only by consuming
bandwidth), whereas viruses always infect or corrupt files
on a targeted computer.
Email Worms Spread via email messages. This worm will arrive
as email, where the message body or attachment contains the
worm code, but it may also link to code on an external
website.
Instant messaging worms Spread via instant messaging
applications by sending links to infected websites to
everyone on the local contact list.
IRC worms Chat channels are the main target and the same
infection/spreading method is used as above — sending
infected files or links to infected websites.
File-sharing networks worms If you use Limewire , Bit
Torrent and other peer-to-peer sharing programs , be careful
with this worm. The worm will place a copy of itself in a
shared folder under a harmless name. Now the worm is ready
for download via the P2P network and spreading of the
infected file will continue.
Internet worms It will target low level TCP/IP ports
directly, rather than going via higher level protocols such
as email or IRC. An infected machine aggressively scans
randomcomputers on both its local network and the public
Internet attempting an exploit against port 135 which, if
successful, spreads the worm to that machine.
To remove worms from your PC you'll need malware remover . Try A-squared Anti-Malware 2.1 .It removes Trojans, Worms, Keyloggers, Dialer and Spyware/Adware from your PC . ( www.emsisoft.com )

4. Spyware: A spyware is any software that covertly gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes. Spyware applications are typically bundled as a hidden component of freeware or shareware programs that can be downloaded from the Internet. Once installed, the spyware monitors user activity on the Internet and transmits that |
information in the background to someone else. They gathers user's information and activity without their knowledge. Spy software can record your keystrokes as you type them, passwords, credit card numbers, sensitive information, where you surf, chat logs, and can even take random screenshots of your activity. Adware is software that is popping up ads on your screen. They usually bundled with free-to-download software.
Not all Adware is bad , however , most users are
annoyed by adware's intrusive behavior.
By removing Adware sometimes the program it came bundled
with for free may stop functioning. Some Adware, may not
perform any activity other then profile a user's surfing
activity for study. You can avoid installing an adware by
carefully reading End User License Agreement. No matter how
tedious the agreement , you should be able to find out the
intent before you install the software. If you have
questions about the EULA- e-mail the company and ask them
for clarification.
